BEFORE NEW FLOORING

Subfloor Repair Before Flooring Installation

Soft spots, loose panels and uneven areas deserve attention before new flooring goes down. A repair scope should explain the problem, the proposed work and how changes will be approved.

When the base needs attention, use Tallahassee Flooring Contractors Group to request a conversation with an independent provider.

Find the cause of the movement

A squeak, stain and soft area do not all mean the same repair. Have the installer assess what is visible and identify when a structural or moisture specialist is needed.

Replacing the finish floor without addressing a continuing leak can leave the new material at risk. Arrange the underlying repair before closing the floor back up.

Set a process for hidden damage

Some conditions only appear after removal. Ask the contractor to photograph findings and provide a written change price before extra repair work begins.

Your agreement should identify the repair area, materials and responsibilities. Larger structural work may require a different contractor or separate review.

Match preparation to the finish floor

Tile, nailed wood and floating planks do not all need the same substrate treatment. The next flooring system should guide the repair specification.

Ask how fasteners, seams and repaired areas will be checked before installation. Keep the inspection and repair records with your new flooring documents.
